The Cházaro Family Brings 175 Years of Mexican Tobacco Legacy to Dubai
This is not a brand arriving to test a market. It is a dynasty arriving to claim its place in it. Cházaro Cigars carries with it a family legacy that began in 1850, a tobacco leaf that predates Cuban seed, and a limited-edition cigar named Don Tito, after the grandfather who started it all, making its international debut on this very occasion.
Cházaro Cigars has arrived in Dubai. And with it, a remarkable family story that steps onto the world stage. The luxury tobacco house, with roots stretching back 175 years to the volcanic fields of Veracruz, made its grand entrance into the Emirates on Sunday, May 10th, at Café Belge in The Ritz-Carlton Dubai. The evening brought together the city’s most discerning collectors and business leaders for the international debut of its most prestigious limited edition and the opening of the brand’s first international office, a headquarters and distribution center that anchors Cházaro’s operations across the entire Middle East.
Chazaro’s branding strategy focuses on reaching potential distributors and special clients who can speak to the brand’s quality and legacy of the brand.
At the center of this journey stands Luis Cházaro, guardian of a tradition shaped by four generations of his family and now the man carrying it to one of the world’s most ambitious luxury markets.

“This brand was born in the fields with my grandfather, Don Tito. My responsibility is not only to protect what he built, but to allow it to grow into the world without losing its soul.” Luis Cházaro
The unique Mexican Tobacco Leaf: San Andrés Negro
Before the story of Cházaro Cigars can be told, the story of its tobacco must be. Because for this brand, they are inseparable.
Every Cházaro cigar is crafted exclusively from San Andrés Negro tobacco, a leaf grown in the San Andrés Valley of Veracruz, Mexico, in conditions that cigar experts describe as among the best on earth for tobacco cultivation. The valley rises 4,000 feet along the Gulf of Mexico, its mineral-rich soil and humid coastal breezes delivering exceptional complexity to every leaf grown there.
What distinguishes San Andrés Negro within the global cigar world is not merely its terroir. It is its provenance. This tobacco strain predates Cuban seed. Archaeological evidence traces its cultivation to the Mayans and Aztecs, who regarded it as sacred. It spread from Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula to Central America and eventually to the Caribbean, where it became the foundation of Cuban cigar culture. Cházaro Cigars uses this ancestral leaf in its original home. Every element of the cigar, from filler to binder to wrapper, is grown and processed in Mexico.
The flavor this leaf produces is distinctive. Notes of dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, and clove emerge through the smoke, with an earthy sweetness and a long finish. Cházaro’s Black line blends 80 percent mild tobacco with 20 percent strong for a profile that moves from medium to complex, firm to the touch, with an exceptional draw and an ash that holds.
Cházaro’s tobacco is harvested on a cyclical farming model. Fields are rotated and rested between harvests to ensure the land maintains its vitality and the leaves their quality. After harvest, leaves are traditionally cured for several months, then fermented for an additional three years before being incorporated into a finished cigar.

Fermentation period: 3 years post-harvest
Aging before release: 1 year, 2 months in controlled conditions
Production: Approximately 15,000 handmade cigars per month
Rolling team: 12 master rollers from San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz minimum 8 years experience each
Master Roller: Don Antonio “Toto” Pucheta 30+ years of experience
This is not industrial manufacturing. It is cultural preservation, and it is a 100% Organic Tobacco Process.
Roots in 1850: The Beginning of a Tobacco Dynasty
Cházaro family’s relationship with tobacco stretches back to 1850, when their ancestors began cultivating and exporting leaf from Tlacotalpan, one of Mexico’s most storied agricultural regions along the Gulf Coast. Generation after generation, they refined their understanding of the land, the leaf, and the craft. By the time Luis “Tito” Cházaro came of age, the family’s connection to tobacco was already deep in the blood. Don Tito, as he was known throughout Veracruz, shaped the modern soul of the business. His reputation extended far beyond tobacco. He was celebrated across his community for his generosity and philanthropic spirit, a man who, in the words of his grandson Luis, “never kept his money to himself and was always at the service of others.”
By the close of the 20th century, the Cházaro family had explored adjacent ventures before returning fully to their roots. In 1998, they launched their first proprietary cigars, the 502 and 504, marking the birth of Cházaro as a modern brand. The goal was to create a high-end Mexican cigar brand that allows sharing the quality and tradition of Mexican tobacco globally.
In 2000, Casa Cházaro opened in Querétaro as a wine bar and cigar lounge, a cultural gathering point for connoisseurs and a living expression of the family’s philosophy: cigars are meant to be shared, discussed, and celebrated.

In 2013, with the launch of Black Cházaro, the premium line defined the brand’s global identity. Two years later, the family inaugurated the Real Fábrica de Tabacos in the municipality of Ezequiel Montes, Querétaro, securing full vertical control of their production process and locking in the craftsmanship that no outside partnership could guarantee.
In 2017, Cházaro debuted at the IPCPR Convention and Trade Show, the cigar industry’s largest annual gathering, introducing Black Cházaro to the U.S. market and earning its first recognition among international aficionados. The brand’s most recent milestone arrived in November 2024, with the launch of its most prestigious line to date: Don Tito, a limited-edition cigar aged for 5 years, 100% handmade, and named in honor of the grandfather who started it all.

The launch, held at Casa Cházaro in Polanco on November 29th, 2024, marked the 10th anniversary of Casa Cházaro and served as the brand’s most powerful statement yet that its best stories are still ahead. Don Tito and the Cházaro’s brand is available at Casa Cházaro, City Market, Duty Free, EHB, and select boutiques across the United States, as well as in Africa, Amsterdam, London, and now Dubai.

Luis and Ruy: Brothers Who Built the Brand
The modern Cházaro Cigars is the creation of two brothers: Luis, the eldest, and Ruy Espinosa Cházaro, the brand’s director general. As children, they accompanied their mother to Café Cházaro, the family’s beloved shop in downtown Querétaro, a business with nearly five decades of history and the place where both brothers first learned the value of commerce, craft, and work.
Ruy, a graduate in Foreign Trade, identified the opportunity that would become Cházaro Cigars: Mexico had extraordinary tobacco, but no premium brand to carry it to the world. “We had never done justice to Mexican tobacco,” he has said. Together, the brothers committed to changing that.
Luis became the face and guardian of the brand’s story, the one who carries the emotional weight of the family legacy forward. His role is not simply executive. It is custodial. He holds the philosophy, the relationships, and the brand’s soul.
Under their shared leadership, Cházaro Cigars has grown from a family workshop into a controlled luxury house with international reach. The strategy is deliberately unhurried: small batches, selective markets, and storytelling anchored in origin rather than volume.

“Luxury today is not about price. It’s about knowing where something comes from and why it exists.” Luis Cházaro
From Querétaro to Polanco: Casa Cházaro Expands
The Cházaro brand has never been limited to the cigar itself. From the beginning, it has been about the experience: the lounge, the conversation, the ritual of slowing down.
Casa Cházaro’s original wine bar and cigar lounge in Querétaro gave way to an evolved concept: a private business club now operating in the heart of Polanco, Mexico City’s most prestigious commercial and cultural district. The new Casa Cházaro is an exclusive membership club for executives and business leaders, where confidentiality is protocol, a place for business meetings, networking, and enjoyment. The lounge is stocked with premium cigars and wines, and every private meeting room is designed for high-stakes conversation.

This expansion from regional lounge to Mexico City’s power district signals something important: Cházaro is no longer positioning itself as a cigar company that runs a lounge. It is a luxury lifestyle house that centers on cigars. Dubai is the next logical step on that arc.
This May 29th marks the 15th Anniversary, with a big party featuring people from around the world.

A New Generation of Elegance
Perhaps the most powerful evolution of the Cházaro story is unfolding not in the factory, but within the family itself.
Luis Cházaro’s two daughters represent the next chapter of the legacy. His eldest daughter, María Cházaro, embodies a new vision of cigar culture. Seated in cigar lounges with elegance and ease, she does not adopt a masculine aesthetic to belong. She redefines what belonging looks like. Maria lives in London and is the UK and Europe manager of the brand.
This is not a symbolic gesture. It reflects one of the most significant shifts in the global premium cigar industry: the entry of women as enthusiasts, collectors, and brand ambassadors. Market research confirms that growing demand for cigars among women is actively reshaping the luxury segment, with manufacturers developing new lines and experiences specifically targeting this demographic.
For Cházaro, this generational shift is authentic rather than strategic. It emerges from within the family itself, giving it credibility that marketing campaigns cannot manufacture.
“My daughters and the whole family are part of this story. They show that elegance and strength can live together, that cigars are not about gender but about appreciation and identity.” Luis Cházaro

Why Dubai and Why Now
In November 2025, Dubai hosted the inaugural World Cigar Show, the first dedicated premium cigar trade event in the Middle East, organized by Quartz Business Events in partnership with the Premium Cigar Association. The show drew nearly 2,000 dedicated cigar attendees alongside thousands more from the co-located World Tobacco Middle East event, welcoming exhibitors from across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The verdict from industry leaders was unanimous: Dubai had arrived as the global gateway for premium cigar trade into the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Far East.
Cházaro’s entry into Dubai lands in that exact moment of market formation. The cigar culture in the Gulf is growing rapidly. Dubai offers what few cities can: a concentration of ultra-high-net-worth consumers, an internationally connected duty-free network, luxury hotel infrastructure purpose-built for exactly the kind of curated experience a premium cigar demands, and a cultural appreciation for provenance and ritual that aligns naturally with the Cházaro story.
The global premium cigar market confirms this timing. The industry is growing at approximately 6 to 8 percent annually, with analysts projecting the global cigar market to reach between $77 and $100 billion by the early 2030s. The Middle East and Gulf region, specifically, are identified by market researchers as among the highest-opportunity areas for premium cigar brands, where cigars carry strong status associations among affluent consumers and a luxury gifting culture is deeply embedded.
For Cházaro, Dubai is not simply a market. It is alignment. A city that understands what the brand has always understood: that the best things take time.

The Grand Arrival: Launch Event, Emirates Office, and a Historic First
The evening of Sunday, May 10th, brought three milestones together at one of Dubai’s most iconic addresses: Café Belge at The Ritz-Carlton. First came the Cházaro Hour, an exclusive cigar-tasting experience unlike anything the Middle East’s cigar world had seen before. Thirty seats only. Four intimate 60-minute sessions running from 6 PM to 10 PM, each one a curated journey through the Cházaro portfolio paired with rum selections and canạpes, designed not for crowds but for connoisseurs. The format was deliberate: in a city that could have filled a ballroom, Cházaro chose intimacy. Because the brand has never been about volume. It has always been about depth. The setting was equally deliberate. Café Belge at The Ritz-Carlton Dubai is a venue synonymous with quiet refinement that does not need to announce itself, making it the perfect home for a brand that lets the tobacco do the talking.
Second came the international debut of Don Tito, the brand’s most prestigious limited edition, presented outside of Mexico for the very first time. Aged ten years, 100% handmade, and named for the grandfather who built this legacy, Don Tito and Cházaro sticks arrived in Dubai not as a product but as a statement. Third, and most significant for the brand’s future, was the opening of Cházaro’s first international headquarters: an Emirates office and distribution center that now serves as the operational base for the brand’s expansion across the entire Middle East. As The Accra office in Ghana will attend all of Africa, and London will attend Europe.

The evening was not a conventional product launch. It was a declaration of arrival, an invitation for Dubai’s luxury world to witness a brand that does not imitate Cuban or Dominican traditions but stands as Mexico’s own luxury expression: rooted in land, carried by family, and shaped by time.
This is not the end of a journey. It is the infrastructure for the next one. With a permanent base now established in the Emirates, Cházaro Cigars stands not merely as a visiting brand, but as a resident force in one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury markets. Further coverage includes an exclusive interview with Luis Cházaro, behind-the-scenes access to the launch event and the new headquarters, and a closer look at the brand’s roadmap for the Middle East.

A Living Legacy
The Arc of Cházaro Cigars is not the story of a brand that got lucky or scaled quickly. It is the story of a family that never stopped believing in something: a leaf, a craft, a philosophy, carried through four generations and 175 years of history.
From a family that put down roots in Veracruz in 1850 and never let go of the land …
To Don Tito Cházaro, who gave the family its soul and its name.
To a mother whose café and tobacco taught two brothers the value of work …
To Luis Cházaro, building the brand that the world deserves from Mexico…
To Maria Cházaro, redefining tobacco sophistication for a new generation
This is not a business story. It is a proudly Mexican legacy story.
“What matters most is that when someone lights a Cházaro cigar in Dubai, they are also lighting a piece of our history.” — Luis Cházaro
